On January 12, 2010 an Earthquake struck Haiti

The international relief effort for the people of Haiti is moving forward. The health care needs of these great people will be a challenge for years to come.

Some of the members of this site have discussed how they can participate in this relief effort. We are fortunate to know Jennifer Trainor, APN in Arizona. She has volunteered with Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) and has served the people of Haiti for years. She is working hard to collect medications and needed supplies through AMURT. this international non-profit charitable organization provides many needed services

As professional nurses, advanced practice nurses, and doctoral prepared nurses, we encourage you to donate to AMURT.

Jennifer shared this information on 1/16/2010: Let me give you an example of how far your donation would go. AMURT can purchase a week's worth of Zithromax / azithromycin (you know, the Z pack, we've all taken one) for 60 cents, this is enough to cure a case of pneumonia for one adult. Or a week's worth of Amoxicillin for a 65 pound child would cost $11. In addition to medications AMURT can purchase first aid supplies, re hydration packets and other necessities They also support nurses and all health care providers in their volunteer efforts.

Shipments leave Miami regularly. This organization is truly in the business of providing relief for the long-haul. Check them out and evaluate their services and history of caring.

If you are able to volunteer, please contact Jennifer Trainor. She would be happy to share information and welcomes more help from nursing colleagues.
