Bio:

Ashley Barr is a current Doctor of Nursing Practice student at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. Her doctoral work is focused on implementing a statewide evidence-based controlled substance agreement form and is expected to complete this degree in 2021.

She completed an Associate Degree in Psychology (2009) and Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Sociology (2010) from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. She has also completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (2014) from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas and a Master of Science in Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Degree (2017) from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.

Ashley spent 10 years as a Combat Medic in the United States Army and afterwards began her career in mental health by serving individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness. After completing her nursing degree, she worked in various roles as a Registered Nurse including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, Surgical Units, Addictions/Psychiatric Inpatient Units and Outpatient Clinics, and in Correctional settings.

Since 2017, Ashley has been practicing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in community mental health, correctional facilities, and inpatient state forensic hospitals. She also has experience as a prescriber in a Medication-Assisted Treatment Program. Ashley recently accepted the role as the Chief Nurse Executive, Director of Nursing for the State of Missouri, Department of Mental Health at Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Ashley lives in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri with her family, 2 cats, and Tank the Chihuahua.
