Katie Lothe, DNP, FNP, APRN
Katie Lothe is a Family Nurse Practitioner who received her MSN and DNP from UW Milwaukee in 2009 and 2012 respectfully. She has practiced mainly in Family Medicine and loves taking care of families, both for wellness and preventative health and partnering to with patients to best manage chronic disease. Katie also is a Clinical Associate Professor at University of Wisconsin- Madison, teaching in the BSN and DNP programs since 2013. There she is able to share her passion for practice and serving patients while utilizing innovative teaching strategies to engage students.

Purpose
The goal of this poster presentation is to share an innovative teaching strategy used to increase understanding of material and enhance critical thinking among DNP students. Instructors from Advanced Health Assessment and Advanced Pharmacology courses collaborated to develop case studies thread through both courses. Key learning outcomes included the ability to construct accurate, succinct documentation, ability to formulate differential diagnoses, verbal presentation of case to course faculty, and creation of a treatment plan. Enhancing critical thinking of DNP students leads to development of well-rounded Advance Practice Nurses who will provide quality patient care in a dynamic health care delivery system.
