This educational offering provides 0.17 CEU and was presented in the Policy track. The course includes a static poster and an MP3 audio file from the presentation originally shared at the 14th National Doctors of Nursing Practice Conference at the Swissotel in Chicago, August 2021. Megan Snyder, DNP, RN Megan Snyder has more than 14 years of clinical and leadership experience in healthcare. She has worked in both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal/Infant Intensive Care Unit as a Clinical Nurse Specialist; applying systems thinking to organizational initiatives that aim to prevent harm and improve the quality of care. Recently, Megan served as the Director of Nursing Professional Practice at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and entered her doctoral program with an aim to enhance integration of evidence-based practice into nursing guidance documents. Purpose The healthcare environment is complex and constantly evolving. The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) recommends that 90% of clinical decisions be evidence-based by 2020 (NAM, 2009). Despite the well-known benefits of evidence-based practice (EBP), EBP is not a standard of care in many healthcare systems around the world (Melnyk et al., 2018). The purpose of this project was to develop guidance that would improve integration of EBP into nursing guidance documents through development of a policy that would standardize the development and revision of nursing procedures and standards.
