    Hello!
Thank you for the great amount of information on the covid crisis. Your topic was introduced at the very beginning of the pandemic. A lot of water under the bridge! It has been almost two years since the pandemic started, and all these articles and resources are still current and extremely helpful. I remember when all this nightmare started, we nurses were in fear and clueless about what we were dealing with. I remember almost all covid ICU patients with respiratory difficulty were intubated as a first-hand intervention. It soon changed to delay intubation as much as the patient could take it given the bad outcomes obtained from immediate intubation as a first-hand intervention. Then proning the patients was introduced with its challenges on putting a team together composed of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and CNAs in super cluttered rooms. This pandemic unveiled our healthcare systems deficiencies such as nursing short staffing and lack of appropriate amounts of personal protective equipment. I hope this brings awareness in our medical institutions and ruling bodies of being prepared for future similar events in the world since globalization only makes us more exposed to crises like the covid one. Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Carol,
Great question! As Susan stated on this forum, public health is not a population/area considered by the Consensus Model yet. Hopefully, it will be considered in the future. My DNP trach is psych, and I can see a relationship between public health and psych working together to better outreach the population in our communities. At present, psych is underdiagnosed, underserved, and highly stigmatized. The covid-19 pandemic has only evidenced the need for more attention to mental health in our society. I see the opportunity to develop a DNP workforce that is more accessible to the population via home health.
On the other hand, chronic health issues like diabetes, congestive heart failure, asthma, teens’ health, and sexually transmitted infection prevention are just a few areas of concentration to create a DNP pathway. Education like lifestyle changes is a vital element for the success of such initiatives. Another area requiring immediate attention is gerontology; with the Baby Boomers generation aging as a group, the need to provide adequate specialized healthcare will be an excellent opportunity for DNPs and healthcare professionals to intervene. Thank you for inquiring about this topic, and I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to help your university.

    Hi Avery,
Please do not be discouraged! I am sorry you have negative feedback from other people about your determination to go back to school. This is your journey, and you should choose to enjoy it. In my personal experience, I can share that I work for a teaching institution where learning is always encouraged and celebrated. When I decided to go back to school, I shared it with co-workers and family. I did not receive one negative comment about it, but only words of encouragement and support. It took me several years to decide to go back to school, then the pandemic came, and I had to put it off for some time before applying for the program I am in now. The first word of support came from a former preceptor who wrote a recommendation letter. When I received the acceptance letter from the school, this former preceptor was happier for me than myself. In the end, this is your journey, so share your struggles with people who care about you, not the ones who might envy you or feel stagnant with their own lives. I hope this helps and by now you are continuing with your schooling.
    Best wishes!
