Katherine Coulter, DNP, FNP-BC 
Dr. Coulter is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Northern Illinois University (NIU). She received a DNP from Chamberlain College of Nursing and her MSN/FNP from Northern Illinois University. In addition to teaching at the University, Dr. Coulter is a family nurse practitioner in a private practice. Dr. Coulter’s research program is focused on promoting evidenced based practice in nursing and quality improvement. To date, she has focused her evidenced based nursing practices on sepsis, diabetes and substance abuse and is also involved in research to develop and improve studies for nurse practitioner education.

Purpose
This presentation with give the audience the background and resources of designing and implementing an education program for individuals outside of the nursing discipline. Specifically, the presentation will provide education on the process, timeline and initiation of earlier identification of sepsis in the pre-hospital setting for first responders. This interdisciplinary work incorporates quality initiatives in an alternate health care setting.
