Mari Sullivan, DNP, APRN, FNP-C
Dr. Sullivan has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for three decades. Her interest is in community-based research that promotes diversity, empowerment, and inclusion in health care decision-making. Last year she retired after 20 years with the US Department of State Foreign Service and is now full-time faculty at Olympic College, Department of Nursing.
Purpose
Innovative use of the Teach-Back method with Micronesian Islander Community parent leaders facilitated several positive outcomes and expansion of resources at the community level to improve health care delivery by increasing community leaders’ skills. DNPs in practice can use and promote the Teach-Back Method to increase health literacy and understanding in vulnerable patient populations.
