Using the Iowa Model of Evidence Based Practice to Guide a Pilot Post Intensive Care Syndrome Education Project (0.17h)

Kim A. Scott, DNP, RN Kim Scott is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at St. Cloud State University in central Minnesota. She worked in the clinical specialties of pediatric oncology and surgical nursing for 17 years before earning her Master’s degree in Nursing Education, and has subsequently been teaching nursing for the past 16 years. She earned her certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2015, and more recently her DNP from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She became interested in post intensive care syndrome research after her son was discharged from the intensive care unit and developed PTSD symptoms. Purpose This presentation relates to conference objectives 1 and 3, which are to identify and incorporate best practice processes and QI strategies for implementation of QI initiatives in health care settings. There is growing recognition that implementation of evidence-based practice changes should be guided by conceptual models. The goal of this presentation is to illustrate the value of using EBP models and theoretical frameworks (i.e., the Iowa Model of Evidence Based Practice; Theory of Planned Behavior) to guide QI project implementation in clinical practice in order to promote project success and improved quality of care for patients, specifically for ICU survivors.
